Why do people think that professional athletes are automatically role models?
I don't want to be like them. A lot of them are stupid. Sure they are genetic freaks and can do incredible things with the tools of their trade, but I don't want to be like them.
Sure I would give anything to be as talented as Kobe Bryant, or Peyton Manning or Mike Vick, or Barry Sanders, or Jonathon Papelbon, or Tom Brady, but that doesn't mean they are my role models. And I really don't think they should be any kids role model. Peyton Manning is a tool, Mike Vick commits animal cruelty, Kobe handles his drama with shaq and the lakers pretty badly, up until the lakers get him what he wants, a decent team and he gets caught up in a rape trial. Barry Sanders quits b/c the team he plays for sucks. Jonathon Papelbon is actually kinda bad at talking. I love the guy, but he can't speak, he mumbles a lot, and also sometimes comes off as kind of an asshole. Tom Brady, haha, what a jerk, I can't believe he doesn't try to see his kid and then goes and impregnates another woman with another illegitimate child, yeah, i want to grow up to be just like him.
On to my point. A player for the mavs recently admited to using marijuana during the offseason, the NBA, the Mavs and critics flip out and he has to apologize for being honest? Are you serious? How many NBA players went, "shut the fuck up man, you'll ruin it for the rest of us"? I know this is a touchy subject b/c marijuana is illegal, but fuck, leave him the fuck alone, as long as he shows up to games and practice let him do what he wants, if he gets caught fine, let the law deal with it. The nba shouldn't regulate players who violate the laws of the land, no league should. Some leagues have a hard enough time regulating their own rules. let the players play the game, then let them do what they want when they are done.

Papelbon's cameo in the new NESN promo where he talks about not saying a word in his dunkin' donuts commercial reminds me so much of Ricky Bobby
